I've watched Times Square clean up and national chain stores obliterate local businesses, I've seen unique industry enclaves dissipate into undifferentiated sameness, and I've witnessed the racialized economic displacement of distinctive ethnic ecosystems. I started taking pictures to document and celebrate NYC's endurance - how it continues to create its own flavor face to face with globalized urban homogeneity.

I started with the idea to Look Down. My first picture was actually two pictures: two corners of an odd concrete step where I was huddled waiting for a friend to meet me for lunch in Koreatown in early January, 2018.

Since then I've expanded - I look up and around. And I've started taking pictures of other cities and places where similar acts of erasure, endurance, transformation are in play: Vilnius, Skopje, Los Angeles, Belgrade, San Francisco, St. Louis, Nashville, Veles, and the Orlando Airport.
